LOGLINE: The greatest adventure for mankind is about to begin. It starts on a day the world will remember.
SYNOPSIS:
In the late summer of 2001, a high-level meeting takes place in
Washington, D.C. The President of The United States, Senator Shirley
Thomson of California and Professor Kelly Gaines, a scientist with NASA
have convened to address a vital issue. Three comets are destined to
reach Earth in the year 2042.
Three specialists from the United State, Russia, and Japan are embark
upon a special mission to combat the comets by either destroying or
deflecting them before they reach Earth. Tony Carlson, Victor Kirov,
and Hiro Tanaka travel to Ft. Ross Island in the South Central Pacific.
In January of 2042, Sojourner, the earth’s largest submarine is in the
Philippines Sea. Two other submarines are engaged in a tactical
exercise of “cat and mouse”. A Chinese sub, Sea Dragon, is under the
command of Lie Chang and Nancy Jackson commands the U.S.S. Nevada.
Things go awry when an accident causes the Sea Dragon to plunge to the
bottom of the sea. Sojourner is rescues Chang and his crew.
Nancy and John Jackson are promoted to Captain the Sojourner but not before the Admirals have fulfilled their final mission.
During Sojourner’s voyage on the Pacific, Kelly is at the Armstrong
Center presenting an orientation program to Nancy Jackson’s son, Tom.
Being very astute and aware, Tom questions something that he views on a
screen and wants to know more. Kimiko Tanaka confirms that there are
comets bound for Earth. Kelly calls Shirley who in turn contacts Byron
O’Shea,COB(CHIEF OF THE BOAT)of Sojourner. She request that she speak
to Tony. Shirley tells Tony that the comets have been spotted.
The Admirals and the Captains arrive in New York at The United Nations
to make a formal announcement to the world that the comets are on their
way to Planet Earth. Tony reveals to the world body that for over fifty
years there have been two space weapons platforms have been deployed in
an active mode and poised to destroy or deflect the comets away from
Earth. Tony’s warning, the world population that is close to the oceans
relocates to safer ground, prompting the largest mass exodus and
migration in the history of mankind.
With exception of Shirley, all the inhabitants of Ft. Ross are now
stationed aboard Sojourner. Nancy and John inform Tony about this, he
becomes very upset. Tony gets officially dressed in his “Class A’s” and
meets Shirley in her office and engages her in a candid discussion. She
agrees to accompany him to Sojourner. Unbeknownst to Shirley, he reads
from a “blank paper,” informing her that she will be the Ambassador At
Large in the event that the comets do reach Earth. Soon thereafter,
they leave Ft. Ross for the Pacific Ocean.
On Christmas Eve the entire world waits with great apprehension not
knowing what fate has in store. Sojourner on the surface and watch the
missiles launched as they set out to head off the comets. The world
watches this dramatic turn of events and breathes a universal sigh of
relief as the comets are destroyed before their astonished eyes.
The collective group of Admirals and Captains join Byron in joyous
celebration. Afterwards, they learn that the American Fleet was on its
way to Japan but had to intercept the Japanese Fleet at Midway. After a
few more toasts, the group is knocked out and we see Shirley Thomson
mysteriously appear out of the darkness and tells everyone that they
are all about to be assigned to one final great adventure.
Byron is the first to wake up. He walks down a hallway and enters a
large room that displays a large window. When he returns to the room we
see the Admirals and Captains waking up. Byron leads them to the large
room where everyone witnesses Jupiter’s Red Spot. They are stunned,
realizing that they not on Earth. There on Europa!
We see the sons and the daughter of the Admirals at the mausoleum. In a
touching and heartfelt tribute to his wife, we see Shirley’s widower
husband, Frank Thomson, former President of the United States bid a
fond and loving farewell. He recounts with pride that when he was
President, Shirley was the only First Lady to be a Senator at the same
time.
